In 2021, the Legal Services Board approved our application to amend the education standards against which applicants are assessed to become Chartered Legal Executives.

We are now able to grant suitable 3rd party training providers accreditation rights. This important step means that approved training providers will be able to design, develop and deliver qualifications which fully meet the knowledge requirements set out in the education standards.

Having completed an approved qualification, applicants providing a qualification certificate will be able to able to apply to become a Chartered Legal Executive via the new accreditation route by providing evidence of experience and competence.

If you would like to apply to be recognised as a training provider delivering a CILEx Regulation approved qualification, further details can be found here:

Flexible route for greater student diversity

Students will be able to complete the academic stage of authorisation to become a chartered legal executive at the same time as achieving an undergraduate degree. This provides greater flexibility and choice when considering their career options, whilst at the same time minimising the costs of becoming a qualified lawyer through CRL. It is hoped that this new flexible route will ensure that CILEX Lawyers continue to reflect the communities they serve, promote greater social mobility and diversity within the legal profession.

Once authorised, chartered legal executives are both Commissioners for Oaths and are also able to provide legal advice in their specialist area.

Cost of applying to become an approved training provider

The cost of making the application to become a training provider, delivering approved qualifications is £500. The annual renewal fee is £300.
